BESIX is the largest Belgian construction group and belongs to the BESIX Group, a collection of companies active in the constructionand real estate sectors.

Founded in 1909, the company has known aregular and impressive growth to become the renowned international it is today. BESIX coverspractically all the fields of the construction industry. BESIX's most important know-how lies primarily in the use of concrete in- complex marine engineering projects (quay walls, piers, jetties, breakwaters, etc.),- major building works (airports, hotels, office buildings, hospitals, etc) and- large scale infrastructure projects (motorways, railways, tunnels, underground railways, bridges, etc.).Since 2003 BESIX Group’s construction activitieshave been split into two business units:The first business unit concentrates on majorinternational construction activities, and consistsmainly of BESIX and Six Construct The second, more regional business unit consistsof the general contracting companies Wust,Jacques Delens, Vanhout and Lux TP. These concentrate their activities primarily on Belgiumand the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg.

BESIX incorporates in-house engineering, with expertise in geotechnical engineering, concrete technology, methods and planning tools like BIM and System Engineering. By optimizing their design work and then aligning the execution stage on it, they produce ‘value engineering’, by minimizing the risks and costs of failure, and optimizing cost and implementation time for the client.

The goal is to limit building costs, maximally reduce risks and prolong a project’s life span without compromising the functional objectives.

To that end, BESIX launched its open innovation programme Unleash in 2016 and its Start-Ups Accelerator in 2018. To support young companies that develop innovative solutions. The role of the BESIX accelerator is to amplify the growth of these start-ups and scale-ups by providing them with tailor-made support and possibilities to experiment.
